# Durban Poison

**Strain Info:** Sativa | THC: 15% - 25%

## About This Strain

**Lineage:** 100% Pure South African Sativa
Landrace

### Overview

Durban Poison is a legendary, 100% pure sativa landrace strain
hailing from the coastal port city of Durban, South Africa.
Because it is a true landrace, its genetics have remained
virtually untouched for centuries, naturally adapting to its
native environment rather than being heavily crossbred. Today,
it stands as one of the most famous and highly sought-after
sativas in the world.

### History & Heritage

This strain's global journey began in the 1970s when American
cannabis activist and cultivator Ed Rosenthal discovered it
during a trip to South Africa to find new genetics. Intrigued by
its exceptionally fast flowering time for a pure sativa, he
brought the seeds back to the United States. The genetics were
later shared with legendary breeders like Sam the Skunkman,
eventually making their way into Dutch seed banks and
coffeeshops, cementing Durban Poison's legacy worldwide.
###
Appearance & Concentrate Potential
Aesthetically, Durban Poison produces round, chunky buds that
are incredibly dense for a pure sativa. The plant is famous for
its oversized resin glands, which coat nearly every surface of
the buds in a thick, frosty layer of sparkling trichomes.
Because of this massive resin production, Durban Poison is
widely considered a top-tier choice for extractors and
concentrate enthusiasts looking for high-quality, flavorful
yields.

### Aroma & Flavour

Durban Poison boasts a highly distinct and complex profile that
is sweet, spicy, and deeply earthy, driven by a unique blend of
terpenes:
-
**Aromas:** An upfront aroma of fresh pine
needles and ripe citrus, rounded out by herbal notes of sage,
damp earth, and a subtle hint of licorice.
-
**Flavours:** On the palate, the strain delivers
a sweet and spicy smoke with a crisp, refreshing blast of
earthy pine on the exhale.
-
**Dominant Terpenes:** Terpinolene (sweet/spicy),
Myrcene (earthy/grounding), and Pinene (fresh pine/herbs).

### Effects

Often referred to as the "espresso of cannabis," Durban Poison
delivers a heavy, immediate blow to the head that quickly
transitions into a strong, happy, and clear-headed high. With
THC levels routinely hitting between 15% and 25% (and
occasionally spiking up to 30%), this is a highly potent strain.
It is the ultimate daytime bud. Users consistently report a
surge of euphoric energy, heightened focus, and an undeniable
spark of creativity. Whether you are tackling a long list of
chores, diving into a creative project, socialising with
friends, or exploring the great outdoors, Durban Poison provides
the perfect fuel to keep you motivated and productive.

### Medical Benefits & Side Effects

For medical marijuana patients, Durban Poison is widely
celebrated for its mood-boosting properties, making it an
effective choice for treating:
- Depression and low mood
- Anxiety and chronic stress
- Chronic pain and physical discomfort
- Nausea
Note on Side Effects: Because of its pure sativa
genetics and high THC content, novice users or those sensitive
to THC should consume with caution. Overconsumption can lead to
paranoia, dizziness, or anxiety. Standard physical side effects
like dry mouth and dry eyes are also common.

### Cultivation Information

Thanks to its landrace genetics, Durban Poison is a highly
vigorous, resilient, and relatively low-maintenance plant. It is
naturally resistant to common pests and thrives in hot, dry
climates.
-
**Outdoor Growing:** This is where Durban Poison
truly shines. Planted in large pots or directly in the earth
under full sun, this pure sativa will stretch incredibly tall
and yield a massive, heavy harvest.
-
**Indoor Growing:** While it can be grown
indoors, growers must be prepared to manage its aggressive
height. Utilizing low-stress training (LST), topping, or
fimming techniques is essential. Maintain a warm, dry
environment (around 50% humidity during veg and 40% during
bloom) for best results.
