# Swazi Gold

**Strain Info:** Sativa | THC: 14% - 18%

## About This Strain

**Lineage:** 100% Pure African Sativa Landrace

### Overview

Swazi Gold is a legendary, 100% pure sativa landrace hailing
directly from the mountainous, micro-climate kingdom of Eswatini
(formerly Swaziland). Tucked between South Africa and
Mozambique, this tiny nation has produced what is widely
considered the crème de la crème of African cannabis.
Cultivated for centuries by the Emaswati people, Swazi Gold is
an ancient, highly resilient strain that has parented numerous
award-winning sativas across the globe.

### History & Heritage

Cannabis is deeply woven into the fabric of Eswatini.
Historically, Swazi Gold was a household staple, grown alongside
maize and sugarcane. Its fresh leaves were used to treat
respiratory ailments, its smoke cleared negative energies, and
seeds were even utilised in animal husbandry. Oral traditions
suggest the strain was heavily utilised by ancient Swazi
warriors and military elite to evoke bravery before battle.
Despite being outlawed in 1937 and enduring decades of
eradication efforts by security forces, the strain survived.
Generations of guerrilla growers moved into the hard-to-reach,
humus-rich mountain crevices to protect their crops, keeping the
original, pure Swazi Gold genetics alive for sativa
connoisseurs.

### Appearance

Swazi Gold plants are towering, wide-branching giants with thick
stems designed to hold immense weight. The buds form into
massive, "RPG-sized" colas. The nugs themselves are long, lumpy,
and foxtail-shaped, boasting a musty green hue beneath a frosty,
fine coating of sandy white trichomes.
The strain is famous for a highly sought-after phenotype known
as **Swazi "Rooibaard"** (Red Beard). In this
variant, the buds become completely engulfed in rich,
brownish-red and vibrant orange pistils that are so thick they
can sometimes fall off and be smoked on their own.

### Aroma & Flavour

Swazi Gold offers a rich, complex, and deeply organic terpene
profile that is remarkably gentle on the throat.
-
**Aromas:** Breaking apart the nugs releases a
zesty, sweet citrus and lemon overtone, backed by deep notes
of damp earth, sweet mango, and wood. Depending on the
phenotype, you may also catch hints of fresh floral mint or
sharp, gassy pine.
-
**Flavours:** On the inhale, expect a fruity,
sweet mango and zesty citrus flavor. The exhale provides a
sharp, woody, and highly satisfying bite.

### Effects

With a fast-acting and hard-hitting onset, the Swazi Gold high
hits right in the forehead and behind the eyes. It delivers a
pure sativa experience characterised by an uplifting, euphoric,
and deeply energised buzz.
Users report an incredible sense of clarity, high alertness, and
deep focus without the anxiety or paranoia often associated with
potent sativas. It is highly giggly and widely considered the
perfect companion for outdoor activities like hiking and
swimming. However, proceed with caution: while moderate doses
promote high productivity, overindulging will transport you to a
headspace where functional reality ceases to exist.

### Medical Benefits

Because of its bright, motivating, and entirely uplifting
effects, Swazi Gold is a favorite among medical patients for
treating:
- Chronic fatigue
- Mild to moderate depression
- Appetite loss
- Chronic pain

### Cultivation Information

True to its landrace nature, Swazi Gold is a remarkably
resilient plant, but it is strictly an
**outdoor** strain that demands a warm climate and
despises the cold.
-
**Growth Habit:** It requires immense space due
to its massive height and wide side-branching. Growers often
plant them near mountain streams in organic, mycorrhizae-rich
soils.
-
**Flowering Time:** Patience is a virtue. Swazi
Gold has a very long flowering cycle spanning anywhere from 95
to 105 days (up to 20 - 25 weeks for full density and frost).
-
**Yield:** Bountiful and massive. A well-tended
outdoor plant can yield an astonishing 2 kilograms of dry
weight over a 6 month period.
